Lit Candles Don’t Commemorate A Self Immolator Great

Political protester student drew straws, and got the short one. Burned himself to death in protest at Warsaw Pact occupation of Prague. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jan_Palach

Inappropriate, the guide girl said
Is the offering in memory made
Of one man who was not afraid
To show his dissent

He and freinds for freedoms cause
Went to protest, and drew straws
His the shortest, to applause
To his destiny, he went.

Hard to imagine, here these days
Doused in petrol, set himself ablaze
Now at the spon, one stops and prays
At this life, not in vain, spent.

Flowers, at this spot state
That this student did demonstrate
The power of protest, and of faith
In a land of discontent.

A lit candle, the guide girl thought
Is inappropriate, instead there be aught
Something different, to commemorate he who fought
For freedom, with anger pent.

Have your say...
